And now, for something completely different:

After all the political talk, I thought it might be time to interject something, well, more ladylike. This is a photo of a "Romantic" era dress, pattern provided by Sense and Sensibility Patterns. I think I'm going to have to learn how to sew - There is a jumper under the Romantic page, and a walking skirt under the Edwardian, and the tea dress under the Titanic page, that I could see being worn out and about even now, without one becoming conspicuous for doing so.

Wish we lived closer to each other so that we could sew together! Over 2000 miles just doesn't cut it. (No pun intended.)

Maybe there is an elderly (or not so elderly) lonesome person in your parish or prayer group or ? that would be willing to teach you how to sew - someone who would love your company? Maybe one of them has an extra sewing machine or one they never use any more that they would let you use or buy "cheap"? (My daughter-in-law just bought a brand new machine for $35.00 at a yard sale. The owner couldn't figure out how to load the bobbin and didn't really want to learn how.)

Often sewing stores offer beginning classes and provide a machine, hoping you'll buy at least your supplies there. Also, check out continuing education class offerings.

If I mentioned all this before, please forgive me.

PS I quickly checked out the pattern website. It looks like so much fun that I added it to my favorites to peruse when I have more time.

Pakrat,
I've just this week decided I really do want to learn. I want to make a flannel nightgown, and that 8-gore skirt, and the jumper.... LOL

Wonderful recommendations, and I'll certainly keep them in mind.

Tracy,
If I ever get married, that may very well be my dress - only in a different color, of course! LOL
